Truthfully, it had been agony to stay so quiet for so long. She had thought about breaking the long stretch of silence between them plenty of times but then she always stopped herself when she glanced over at him. So she focused on the landscape instead, picking out different small things that caught her interest as the world was definitely very different from what she had imagined it would be while still in the vault.

She was looking elsewhere when she realized that the Ghoul had suddenly changed direction, causing her to blink as she watched him and inevitably trailed after him when she saw that he was going to the cactus. Curious, she arched a brow as he cut off a bright red thing from the cactus and started to cut it open.

Then she looked surprised when he offered her half but didn't hesitate to take it, a small smile flitting across her lips. "Thank you."

She was still watching him as she took a small bite, then paused as the taste exploded over her tongue. Then she looked happy as she took another bite, making sure to spit out the seeds like he had.

The Ghoul couldn't taste the fruit like she could, just a barely there hint of a sweet-tartness, but he appreciated the fact that it was juicy enough to drip down the chin and felt heavenly on a dry throat. He ate most of his half and offered the last fourth to Dogmeat, who wolfed down the chunk out of his gloved palm and licked at the smears of juice left behind. He chuckled softly and swiped at his mouth with the back of his other hand, reached for another fruit to peel and split three ways, this time, since both the Vaultie and the dog had enjoyed it so much.

It was better than heavenly, Lucy would have decided. She made a happy little groan before sticking the fruit between her lips and then a soft sucking noise could be heard as she drew more of the juices out to further wet her throat. As she did, she looked up in time to watch a bit of juices run down the Ghoul's chin while he chuckled to himself and got another fruit. She didn't know why but she had felt a small clench of something down low in the pit of her stomach before she jerked her gaze away.

Finishing her first piece of fruit, she continued to look away as she licked her lips with delicate swipes of her tongue, getting rid of the juices and smiling to herself. Then she glanced at him as he offered her another piece, her smile growing a touch. "Thank you again."

Well that was interesting. The glanced at Lucy out of the corner of his eye, and his lips twitched as he tossed the chunk of fruit into the air for Dogmeat to snatch in her jaws. The hint of a smirk was still there as he passed the Vaultie another piece. "Welcome," he replied, biting into his own piece, rolling the juice around his mouth and leaning over to spit out a hard little seed. "Can't say I've ever heard someone make grade A porno sounds over a piece of prickly pear before."

Lucy looked up after spitting out a small seed, confusion flashing across her face as she searched her memory for whatever he was talking about. After a few seconds, she gave up and decided to ask him directly after chewing down another small bite of the fruit.

"What are grade A porno sounds?" She had a curious little arch to one brow as he brought the fruit to her mouth, sucking a little on the edge to get more of the juices.

He hadn't expected her to know what a porno was, exactly, but he'd kinda thought she might be able to work it out. Pretty sterile little life in that vault, huh? No dirty pictures or books? Figured. "Pornographic," he elaborated, with an amused sound, twisting off a couple more fruits to tuck away in his pockets for later. "Sex noises, sweetheart. Sound like your gettin' off on desert fruit."

"Oh," she took a moment to digest that information, canting her head to the side again as she seemed to replay some sort of scene in her mind over and over. "I don't actually make much noise as far as I know but I've only had sex once. It was nice but then he tried to kill me after, so we didn't really get to explore a regular sex life after that."

And she'd had fun doing cousin stuff but she couldn't really recall having made a lot of 'sex noises' then either.

The Ghoul blinked at her once, owlishly, head canting in a manner that seemed reserved solely for her and the puzzle that she always was. "Well that's a pisser, ain't it." With his pockets full, he reached over her shoulder to drop a few fruits into her pack. "No hanky panky with that strappin' young knight of yours, neither?"

"He's not really my knight but he doesn't seem to know what sex is," she answered honestly before realizing that maybe she shouldn't have said that. Maybe Maximus wouldn't want her to spread that information around, especially to someone who would most likely mock him about it.

"I asked him once and he said no. Then he seemed curious after but then things happened," she trailed off, making a sort of motion between them even though she didn't mean to insinuate that something had happened between them. More just that everything with her Dad had happened and now she was traveling with the Ghoul, not Maximus. "Plus he's with the Knights now and they wouldn't approve of me. Or you."

Somehow it didn't surprise him that the Brotherhood didn't fuck. His gaze flicked down to her gesturing hands with a tiny, wry smile of amusement at the unintentional implications, though he didn't make it worse by cracking a sarcastic and dirty remark. "Brotherhood don't much care for nobody outside their own ranks, sweetheart," he drawled, resecuring the flap on her backpack after he'd dropped a few prickly pears into it. The movement brought him closer to her, and he noticed a smear of juice and a seed clinging to her chin. With a soft chuff of a laugh, he reached up and swept it off with a quick swipe of his gloved thumb. For a moment he was reminded of long gone summer evenings with Barb and Janey, bare feet in dewy grass while the sun set, eating slices of watermelon and making a game of who could spit the seeds the farthest. He dismissed the feeling quickly and whistled sharply to bring Dogmeat to his side, stepping past the Vaultie and heading back towards the crumbled highway. "C'mon, let's keep movin'."

Her gaze flickered as he reminded her that the Brotherhood didn't like anyone outside of her ranks which made her worry for Maximus. Maybe he wouldn't ever come to live in her vault but she was also starting to wonder if she was really going to be able to go back. She was thinking about it when he moved close enough to put some fruit in her pack, drawing her gaze up to his face as she almost asked what he was doing even though it was obvious.

Until it wasn't and he made her mind go blank with the softness of his gloved thumb swiping against her chin. It was a simple touch and yet her lips parted slightly as she looked up at him, surprised by the look on his face as much as the action. She reached up to touch her chin after he stepped away, most likely checking for more of whatever it was he had wiped away or maybe it was because of the heat that lingered behind as well as crawling into her cheeks.

"Okey dokey," she replied, hoping he wouldn't note the hint of breathlessness as she followed after him.

He noticed it. But he wasn't fool enough to think it meant anything. He was mostly just surprised he hadn't jerked away from the fleeting touch in horror and disgust.

...That weren't entirely fair. He'd seen the way she'd smiled at Roger, soft and sweet and full of sympathy for a monstrous stranger, before he'd given him the mercy of a quick and clean death. Probably the prettiest thing ol' Roger'd seen in all his Wastelandin' days. He'd thought her sugary disposition was an act, right up until the moment she'd set those vials down in front of him.

He lapsed into silence as he followed Dogmeat down the highway, keeping an eye out for signs of ambush or wandering travellers. "So who was he?" he asked casually, slowing down to fall more in step with the Vaultie--still a little in front of her, but close enough to carry on a conversation. "The husband what tried to deflower and murder all in one go?"

Lucy had been horrified that day when The Ghoul had shot his friend without what seemed like a second thought but she understood it now. She could see it for what it was: mercy. He had talked Roger about fond memories, got him to think about something good and then put him out of his misery before he could become a monster that was unrecognizable even to himself. She had started to understand it at the organ harvesters but it had finally clicked the second she decided to shoot the ghoul that had once been her mother.

She was mulling over her thoughts and his actions when she realized he had fallen back a little so he could talk to her. She shouldn’t have been surprised by his question but she blinked before she answered. “He was a raider, a part of Moldaver’s team.”

She told him all about it then; she told him how she had signed up to be married to someone from another vault, how she had met and married Monty and what had happened afterward. She told him about how she realized Monty was a raider after they had sex and that all the people they had thought were from the next vault over but were raiders instead. How it had all been a trick on Moldaver’s part to get her father.

“After that, I decided to leave the Vault to find him and you pretty much know the rest,” she trailed off with a little shrug. “Plus he didn’t really deflower me, I was an active participant until I realized who he was.”

The Ghoul listened without interruption or question, just an occasional low, thoughtful sound humming in the back of his throat. "Still a pisser, havin' your first roll in the hay under false pretense," he remarked. He turned it over in his head for a moment, then tipped his head in that way he did when he was eyeing something new. "Gotta hand it to Moldaver, she's still the same clever fuckin' bitch she always was. Could've brought trained soldiers in. She had plenty 'nough at her beck. 'Stead she gets a bunch of chemheads, thieves, and killers. People that ain't hers, expendable. Lets em loose, stirs up chaos. Then walks out with her prize and don't lost shit in the process. Smart." He rolled a shoulder. "Reckon her smart ass is dead now. Them tin cans weren't leavin' survivors."

“True, it would have been nice not to have my first time be in a situation like that but I suppose it could have been worse,” she mused before she caught his look and shrugged, offering a small smile. “He could have actually killed me right after. I came out on top, both during sex and after.”

But then she paused, looking at him closely. She wasn’t going to touch in the idea that Moldaver was probably dead now because that wasn’t her issue to deal with. But she was curious more and more about him. “You knew her? How?”

The Ghoul canted his head and blinked slowly; of all the things to find a silver lining in, that was a pretty fuckin' odd one. His lips twitched, and he shook his head in amusement, an image popping into his head without him consciously summoning it. Pretty flushed little virginal Vaultie bouncing on his dick? Probably the best fuck of young Monty's soon to be ended life.

"Knew her 'fore the bombs dropped," he informed her, pausing for a moment to let that sink in. "Knew your daddy then too."

Sometimes it was better to look for the silver lining in things rather than being all gloom and doom but, damnit, her outlook was surely being tested these days. She glanced over at him again, catching the amused look on his face as she wondered exactly what was crossing his mind. But then a thought crossed her mind as she found the question bursting out of her with no filter again. "When is the last time you had a roll in the hay?"

Then she stopped, taking the offered moment before shaking her head as though what he was saying couldn't make sense. "How?"

You know, this was his own damn fault. He was the one who brought up sex first. He considered ignoring the question, or telling her it was none of her fuckin' business, but ultimately just shrugged. "A while."

He let the question hang for a moment or two before he answered. "Might be a long story, sweetheart. You wanna get into it now, or wait for camp? Ain't gonna matter to me either way."

Yes, he probably should have been aware of where his line of questioning would lead because now she was interested in his answer. Maybe it was a twisted thing to be interested in but she had always had a curious mind and it couldn't be helped that now she was kind of wondering what sex with him would be like. "Is bit because you're a Ghoul? Can Ghouls have sex?"

Biting her lip, she was torn because she wanted to know but there was a small shameful part of her that didn't. "Moldaver hinted at it, she said I didn't know where and when he was from. I guess it makes sense that she knows him."

She was clearly struggling but she ultimately lifted her chin, looking at him. "Tell me now."

The Ghoul was starting to wish he'd tucked away more of the chems and hooch those shady organ dealers had spread out like a buffet. He needed a fuckin' drink. "You askin' me if my dick fell off, Vaultie?" he drawled, angling a side glance at her. "Why the fuck you so interested?"

Shaking his head, he really hoped they could table that discussion for now. "Can't say how Moldaver survived this long, not for sure. She was a scientist. Brilliant, supposedly. But your daddy, well. I'm guessing he moved up high enough in the Vault-Tec ranks to get in on Bud Askins' plan for the end of the world. Got himself booked into a cozy little cryogenic freezer to wait out the worst of the fallout. You ever actually see the vault he supposedly grew up in?"

"You were the one who asked me about sex first," Lucy pointed out, blinking at him as she tried not to feel a tiny bit flustered by his question or the fact that now she was thinking about said dick. She gave her head a little shake to stop that dangerous line of thought but she also had to ask. "But did it fall off? I remember what happened to your finger..."

Maybe she shouldn't remind him about that, dang.

Yes, they should table that discussion and so she tried to focus on the information he was giving her as they walked along. Except she felt a wave of dizziness sweep over her when he told her his guess that her Dad had probably been locked in a freezer while bombs were going off and people were dying. The look on her face answered his question about if she had ever seen the vault her Dad had grown up in.

Because it was one thing to know that her Dad had been the one to burn Shady Sands to the ground but to know he had been involved with the bombs being dropped? Horror swept through her as she looked around slowly, seeing the hellish landscape that stretched out all around them like a haunting memory she didn't want to have. When her stomach rolled, she didn't think it had anything to do with radiation.

He almost defended himself there, and pointed out that he'd only mentioned she was making some noises and she'd run with it from there, but that seemed...pretty fuckin' immature, so he didn't. "You plannin' on biting that off too?" he shot back instead, because that was so much more mature. He walked for several more paces before he realized she'd slowed to a stop, and he looked over his shoulder at her. Shit. This was why he'd suggested she wait til they were stopped for the night.

On a barely audible sigh, he turned on his heel and waited patiently for her to process the revelation. He supposed some might offer platitudes, say something like, That doesn't mean he doesn't love you, but as he'd already told her: he was an honest monster.

"I wasn't going to...," Lucy stammered, surprisingly flustered again but only because his question about her biting off his dick brought up images of her having his dick in his mouth. She imagined it for a moment too, wondering what it would even look like or taste like. In her mind, he took the place of old memories.

Except she couldn't linger on it for long as she stared unseeing, trying to breathe slowly while being aware of the fact that he was standing there watching her. "You talked to him, and said that he had asked you for your autograph."

Her lips parted and pressed together as she worked through that before slowly turning a wide-eyed gaze to him. "Who are you?"

The Ghoul tilted his head at her and held that wide-eyed gaze for a stretch of poignant silence, then stepped closer, uncomfortably close. "I told you, sweetheart," he drawled, low and with a hint of threat, or maybe just warning. "I'm you. Just add a couple hundred years. You ain't askin' who I am though, are ya. You're askin' who I was. And you ain't got a right to that 'til I say you do. We clear?"

Lucy didn't back down, she merely lifted her chin to meet his gaze, holding it with a strange steadiness despite the shaky situation she found herself in. She reminded herself that he didn't owe her anything and that not even a bit of joking back and forth, or his giving her his jacket at night, meant anything.

"Okey dokey," she replied, seeming to agree even though there was a flash of defiance in her gaze that made it clear she wanted to argue but she was choosing not to.
